GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of forestry and landscaping activities in an assigned area of responsibility, and/or serves as the lead worker over an assigned maintenance crew; performs other duties as required or assigned.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of routine manual landscape and forestry activities in an assigned area of responsibility to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for City residents. The employee is this position will oversee and coordinate the scheduling of landscape and forestry projects in City parks. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions with exposure to airborne pathogens and chemicals.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

Some knowledge of basic principles and practices of arboriculture.

Some knowledge of landscape construction, maintenance, and repair activities, including parks, recreation, landscaped areas, and cemetery facilities, including the safe and proper use of related chemicals and pesticides.

Some knowledge of the safe and proper use of basic hand tools, power tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance, repair and landscaping work.


Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Performs various forestry functions including planting, replacing and pruning trees on all city owned property and right of way.
  • Performs and oversees daily forestry activities of an assigned crew, ensuring there is proper staffing to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and repairs light and heavy equipment, maintenance tools and equipment as necessary.
  • Maintains City drainage and sprinkler systems, including building, installing, cleaning and repairing drainage and sprinkler structures.
  • Able to operate backhoe, bobcat, tractors, trenchers and other miscellaneous equipment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Direct and lead a crew of 2-5 people
  • Manage crew time and routes
  • Operate power tools and equipment
  • Accountable for proper care, maintenance and use of all tools and equipment assigned to your team
  • Mow and edge lawns; control weeds in beds
  • Blow off hardscapes
  • Prune trees and shrubs
  • Snow removal
  • Maintain timely work attendance, attend safety meetings and facilitate training to crew

Skills We’re Seeking:


  • Good English and communications skills with crew and clients
  • Track time accurately and timely by project and employee based on tasks and budgets
  • Proficiency in operating all equipment and tools used on jobsite
  • Landscape services experience and plant care knowledge
  • Current, valid Idaho Driver’s License
  • Be able to comfortably drive a truck with trailer
  • Dependable, enthusiastic and willingness to learn and work hard
  • Be able to lift 50lbs and work outside in all 4 seasons

Landscape Foreman 


We are seeking a qualified Landscape Foreman or Landscape Foreman in Training who enjoys working with teammates providing high quality services for our friendly clients and customers. Your duties would include managing landscape installations from start to finish, properly managing your team members to accomplish tasks. Proper completion of paperwork including time sheets, job sheets, and job costing tracking.

  • Experience in the following areas is preferred however we will train the right individual in areas that need polishing: installations of plantings, trees, pavers, wall, sprinklers, edging, fire pits, planting beds, sod, seed, mulch, rock bedding, boulders, landscape cloth, and grading. Some landscape maintenance including but not limited to spring and fall cleanups, pruning, weeding, spraying, raking, mowing, trimming, clean ups.
  • We service all of Valley County from approx. April 1st to approx. Nov. 20th. A winter job opportunity is at Tamarack Resort. As we close down for the season, they start up. As they shut down for the season, our season opens up. A bonus of a free season’s pass when you work at the resort.
  •  Pay will range from $17 to $20 per hour based upon experience and can go higher if very well qualified. Benefits include 3 paid holidays, 3 paid sick days, 2 paid personal days and paid 1 week vacation time.  Contributions to 401K, Health Insurance, and off work Accidental insurance.  A bonus plan is on the horizon to reward those that seek excellence and efficiency.

Horticulture Service Technician

The Horticultural Service Technician is responsible for maintaining interiorscape accounts assigned to their care. On a structured schedule and within an allotted time frame, the technician maintains interior foliage plants by using accepted horticultural techniques.

Skills/requirements

Essential Functions of the Job

Must LOVE plants and be able to lift 10 lb. water buckets. Must be able to climb ladders and have good dexterous use of both hands. Must be able to use scissors, pruners, hand saws, hoses and other small tools. Must be able to apply leaf cleaners and insecticides using hand-held pump sprayers. Must have a satisfactory safe driving record. Must be able to professionally communicate with clients and have a neat and clean appearance.

1. Watering and fertilizing all plants as necessary.

Horticultural Service Technicians must have a reliable personal vehicle available each work day for transportation to the accounts. Vehicle liability insurance and a valid drivers license are to be in place at all times. Mileage compensation will be provided.
